Wesley Angel, Jr.

September 27, 1940 — May 8, 2026

Shelby, NC

Wesley Angel, age 85, of Shelby NC, was born on September 27, 1940 and was welcomed into his eternal rest by our Savior on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Wendover Hospice Home in Shelby, NC.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Olene Gray Angel. To this incredible love story, they added four beloved children: Beverly Browning and husband Charles, of Shelby NC; Valerie Carr and husband Keith of Sand Gap, KY; Steven Angel of Annville, KY; and Dena Hawkins and husband Lonnie of Caroleen, NC. Over their years together they joyously welcomed five grandchildren whom they absolutely doted on: Brittany Sandlin, Chad Browning, Brandon Carr, Madelyn Hawkins, and Cameron Hawkins. He was blessed to have thirteen great grandchildren that were more than blessed to have him for a Pappy, including one special little man, Elijah Edward Goma, age 2.

Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, Randle and Roseline Angel of McKee. He is survived by one sister, Joyce Angel Smith of Liberty, IN and two special nephews, Randy Gray and Ricky Gray, both of Indiana, and a host of other precious nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones.

Wesley was a devout Christian and family man. He was an avid gardener, hunter and enjoyed catching a walleye better than anything. He was a member and deacon of Indian Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Wesley will be Saturday, May 16 at 2:00 at the Indian Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Kenneth Wilder officiating. A private burial will follow in the Angel Family Cemetery on Indian Creek.

Pallbearers include Charles Browning, Keith Carr, Steve Angel, Lonnie Hawkins, Chad Browning, Brandon Carr and Cameron Hawkins.

Honorary pallbearers include his great grandchildren: Addison Carr, Tyler Sandlin, Jordan Browning, Jonah Sandlin, Ana Browning, Ava Carr, Abram Sandlin, Amelia Carr, Gillian Sandlin, Jade Isaacs, Elijah Goma, and two step-great-grandchildren Teagan and Kendrick Dezarn.

Special thanks to both Harrellson’s Funeral Home of Forest City, NC for their transport and Lakes Funeral Home of McKee, for their loving and compassionate care.
