Wayne D. Mitchem

Wayne D. Mitchem, age 75, of Forest City, passed away Monday, August 10, 2026 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Wayne was born Thursday, February 15, 1951 in Rutherford County to the late Earl C. Mitchem and Lottie Mae Carswell Mitchem. Wayne was a graduate of Chase High School Class of 1971. He worked as a machinist for Timken for over thirty years. He was a long-time member of Victory Baptist Church in Ellenboro, NC. Wayne, more than anything, enjoyed spending time with his family. He will forever be remembered as a good man who was a dedicated husband, father and Poppy whose love was unbreakable.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Keith Mitchem and Kenneth Mitchem.

Those left to honor his legacy include his beloved wife of fifty-six years Sheila Capps Mitchem; daughter Shawna Mitchem Jenkins; son Mark Mitchem (Tracie); grandsons Avery Jenkins, Alex Jenkins and Hayden Mitchem (Savannah); and great-granddaughter Kinley Mitchem.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm on Thursday, August 13th, at Victory Baptist Church with Reverend Johnny McCarty and Reverend Jerry Causby officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
