Specialist Fourth Class Lawrence Alan "AL" Silvers

Specialist Fourth Class Lawrence Alan “AL” Silvers, age 78, of Ellenboro, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2026 at his home.

Al was born Tuesday, January 20, 1948 in Rutherford County to the late Bryant and Myrtle Silvers. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Freida Silvers.

Al was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1966. After graduating, he entered the U.S. Army, where he served a tour of duty in Vietnam. During his service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Palm and, the Good Conduct Medal.

After serving his country, he began his lifelong career as a carpenter and later retired form Beams Construction. Al took pride in his work and was known for doing things the right way-no shortcuts, unless it meant getting to the fishing hole a little faster.

Al loved to travel and especially cherished the time he spent exploring new places with his wife by his side. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and golfing, finding his happiest moments out on the water or on the course, where a good day didn’t always depend on the score.

The funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 1st at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Paul Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 30th at his home located at 107 Moore Acres, Ellenboro, NC 28040.
