SFC Charlotte Rome Vick (Ret) U.S. Army, age 65, of Lakeland, Florida passed away Monday, February 9, 2026 at the Wendover Hospice House in Shelby.
Charlotte was born Wednesday, March 16, 1960 in Cleveland County to the late Claude Rome and Ostine Rome Gowan. She served her country honorably in the United States Army and retired as a Sergeant First Class. Charlotte was a part of the Grenada Invasion Force. She was a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Plant City, Florida. She was an avid golfer, pickleball player and an active runner. Her greatest joy was spending special times with her beloved grandson, Loki.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Vick and a brother, Philip Rome.
Those left to honor her memory include her brother, Calvin Rome (Christy) of Fayetteville, NC; sisters, Janice Dayberry of Casar and Vonda Huss (David) of Charlotte. She is also survived by her son, Richard Lopez (Marisa) of Lakeland, Florida; grandson, Loki Lopez and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends starting at 10:00 am on Friday, February 13th at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 1507 Oak Grove Church Rd., Ellenboro, NC 28040. The funeral service follow at 11:00 am at the church with Reverend Mark Owens and Reverend Chris Glawson officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
