Samuel “Junior” Greene, age 79, of Caroleen, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at the Charles George Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Asheville.

Sam was born on Friday, August 10, 1945 in Cleveland County, to the late Samuel Dee Greene Sr., and Catherine Teseniar Greene. He was a graduate of Chase High School in 1963, and later attended Cleveland Community College. Junior was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam Era. He worked for thirty-two years for Celanese (Shelby Fiber Company) until he retired. Junior loved to golf, fish, and hunt, and had a special love for animals. He was a quiet man with a humble soul, yet he was never afraid to share his opinions. Sam was an avid gardener and loved canning the goods he had grown as well as making homemade soups. He was a former member of Caroleen Missionary Methodist Church, later named Grace Missionary Methodist Church, and had a great sense of humor. His family will remember him as a loving and caring husband, a dedicated hardworking father, and an amazing grandfather to his grandchildren who affectionately knew him as “Pa”.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special mother-in-law, Carrie Cleo Guffey Greene.

Survivors are his precious wife of nearly fifty-six years, Daisy G. Greene, of the home; his son, Samuel Dee Greene III (Angie), of Virginia; daughter, Robin Greene Carpenter (Reggie), of Caroleen; brother, Garland Greene (Jenny); four grandchildren, Hunter Greene, Holden Greene, Brett Carpenter (Ashley), and Chase Carpenter; three great-grandchildren, Savannah Carpenter, Brooks Carpenter, and Daisy Carpenter; numerous nieces and nephews; and several special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 17th, at the Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Danny Bumgarner officiating. There will be no formal time of visitation. Military Honors will be rendered by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
