Nellie Burgess

Nellie Crowe Burgess, 87, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2007 at Crawley Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Nellie was born December 17, 1919 in Rutherford County to the late Lowe Emory Crowe and Ruth Mashburn Crowe. She grew up in Rutherford County moving to Virginia in 1959 and returning to Shelby in 1976. She had worked as a sales associate for Belk and K-mart for many years. She was a long-time member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband J.P. "Pete" Burgess in 1985 after 48 years of marriage.

She is survived by her three daughters, Freda Jones and husband Clyde of Ellenboro, NC, Catherine Street and husband Randy of Shelby, NC, and Jane Ayers of Ellenboro, NC. She is also survived by six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
