Mark Tate, age 65, of Ellenboro, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Mark was born Tuesday, May 17, 1960 in Rutherford County to the late Floyd Tate, Jr. and Joyce Tate who resides in Forest City. He was a graduate of East Rutherford High School, class of 1978. Mark served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He was known by all as a “Jack of All Trades.” There was nothing he could not build or repair. He used his talent and ingenuity to be a help many. Mark was a faithful member of Alexander United Methodist Church where is served on the Board of Directors. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed fishing. Mark was known for his positive and easy-going attitude. His favorite saying was, “Every Day is a Blessing!”

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Tate III and a granddaughter, Taylor Curry.

Besides his mother, those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Kathy Tate; children, Eva Harmon (Brian) of Spartanburg, Daniel Curry of Tomball, Texas, Tiffany Smith (Travis) of Cliffside, Beth Shehan (Mike) of Forest City, Nichole Timm of Cramerton, NC and Russhelle Nodine (Billy) of Ellenboro; sisters, Anna Maria Coffey (Joe) and Chris Holland all of Ellenboro. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial gathering to honor Mark’s life will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 1st at Harrelson Funeral Home. Military honors will be provided by the Rutheford County Honor Guard immediately following the gathering at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are requested to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org or to the Baptist Hospital Burn Unit in Wake Forest.
