Rutherfordton, NC

Jimmy Ray “Curley” Dyer, age 72, of Rutherfordton, went home to be with the Lord, rejoicing in Heaven and reunited with the many loved ones who passed before him. He was saved on April 27th and soon after moved to room 316—a beautiful reminder of John 3:16.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice Dyer, on December 14, 2021; his grandchild, Addison Laws; his parents, Carmon Eugene Dyer and Sadie Slaughter Wiggins; and his brother, Carmon Eugene Dyer Jr. (Junior).

Those left to cherish his memory include his three children: Roger Laws (Stacy), Peggy Sue Cole, (Brian), and Curley Dyer (Barbie Sheppard); ten cherished grandchildren: Brandon, Haley, Briana, Javen, Wyatt, Carmen, Abigail, Madelyn, Nathan, Grayson, Alysa, Nate, and Brian Kevin, Jr.; and his siblings: Linda, Rose, Mary, and Michael; great grandbabies, Liam and Callie.

Jimmy spent many years as a roofer and mechanic before retiring from Thompson’s Contractors in 2017. He was known for his love of life’s simple joys—spending time on the railroad tracks with a cold beer in hand, always full of love, laughter, and stories that made you feel like family, whether you were or not. He loved fishing, watching movies and riding his scooter.

His love, humor, and generous heart will be remembered by all who knew him. His legacy lives on through his family and the countless memories they will carry forward. Jimmy’s greatest joy was his family. He had a heart big enough to hold them all, and his gentle smile and warm hugs will be deeply missed. His love, humor, and generous spirit will forever echo in the lives of those he touched. His legacy lives on through his family and the countless memories they will carry forward, reminding us all to love a little deeper and laugh a little louder. Jimmy was a strong man who bravely fought stage four cancer without a complaint.
