James “Plu” Hobbs, age 92, of Forest City, passed away at Atrium-Health Cleveland on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
James was born on Friday, May 20, 1932, in Polk County, to the late James Alonzo Hobbs and Lennie Elmore Hobbs. He was a member of Caroleen Missionary Methodist Church and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. James worked for both Burlington Mill and Cone Mills for thirty-six years collectively and enjoyed mowing grass in his free time.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Butler Hobbs; his second wife, Ramona “Dee” Prewitt Hobbs; his brother, Joney Hobbs; his sister, Jean Moore; and a son-in-law, Eddie Owens.
He is survived by his son, Ricky Hobbs, of Forest City; his daughters, NaGail Hobbs, of Forest City, and Teresa Hobbs Owens, of Spartanburg; step-children, Anita Fay Russell (Bob), of Berwick, PA, Tim Ledbetter (Peggy), of Berwick, PA, and Jason Ledbetter (Erin), of Bostic; four grandchildren, James Smith, Heather Smith, Joseph Smith and Charlene Paitrick; three great-grandchildren, Diamond Smith, Za’mya Smith, and Jakobe Crawford; eight step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 28th, in the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ernie Cole officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
