Iris Elaine Flythe Greene

Iris Elaine Flythe Greene, 92, went to be with her Lord on January 26, 2025. Iris was born on December 10, 1932, in Warwick (currently Newport News), VA to the late Russell and Margaret Flythe. She married her beloved Steve Austin Greene on May 17, 1952, in Newport News, VA, which is where they raised their four children. She was a member of First Baptist Church Matthews and previously a long-term member of Liberty Baptist Church, Ellenboro, NC where she and Steve were active in children’s church and the bus ministry. She enjoyed gardening, reading her Bible, and Christian novels.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Steve, her grandson Vincent Turner, and her brothers Elwood Flythe and Compton Flythe.

Iris is survived by her four children, ten grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren: son, Michael Greene (Dianne) of Martinsville, VA, and their children: Heather Greene, David Greene, Harvest Sadowski (Erik), Yarrow Lavoie, Iris Virginia Huckfeldt (Matthew), Nathanael Greene, and their grandchildren: Ben Sadowski, John Sadowski (Makenna), Daniel Sadowski, Hannah Lavoie, Hailey Lavoie, Mason Burton, Geralt Greene; son Kenneth Greene (Jackie) of Concord, NC, and their daughter: Jenna Greene; son, Paul Greene (Sue) of Matthews, NC and their children: Benjamin Greene (Jen), Melissa Turney (Brian); and their grandchildren: Ashley Weaver (Tyler), Daniel Greene, Charlie Turney, Zoie Turney, Henry Turney; and daughter, Teresa Stacy (Ray) of Forest City, NC, and their daughter, Julia S. Johnson (Wesley), and their grandchildren: Alexander Johnson, Autumn Johnson; and her sisters, Barbara Hounshell, Sarah Telstad.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Liberty Baptist Church, Ellenboro, NC on Saturday, March 29th at 1:00. Her ashes will be interned beside her beloved Steve in the Church cemetery.
