Bobby Johnson, a man of profound faith, steady hands, and a generous heart, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, at the age of 82. Born November 3, 1943 to LeeAnna Waters Johnson and Robert E. Johnson, Bobby grew up with a deep appreciation for family and hard work—values that would define his eighty-two years.
A master of his craft, Bobby spent his professional life as an auto mechanic, where his mechanical mind and reliable nature earned him the respect of all who knew him. His creativity extended far beyond the garage, however. As a passionate woodworker, he spent countless hours in the workshop, meticulously turning raw timber into beautiful treasures. Whether he was fixing a neighbor’s engine or building a gift for a friend, Bobby’s work was always a labor of love.
For over half a century, Bobby was a pillar of Goode’s Creek Baptist Church. His devotion to his faith was evident in his tireless service, where he shared his wisdom and kindness as a Deacon, Deacon Chair, and Sunday School Teacher. His church family was an extension of his own, and his legacy of spiritual leadership will be felt for generations.
When he wasn't at the church or in his shop, Bobby could often be found by the water with a fishing pole in hand. Yet, his greatest joy was found at home. Bobby shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Joyce. Together, they built a life centered on love and devotion. He was a proud father to his daughter, Sherrie, and a welcoming father-in-law to her husband, Jay. Perhaps his favorite role of all was that of "Grandpa," as he took every opportunity to spoil his granddaughter, Jayna.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, LeeAnna and Robert. He leaves behind a family who adored him, including his wife, Joyce Johnson; his daughter and son-in-law, Sherrie and Jay Moore; and his granddaughter and her husband, Jayna Moore-Sale and Tim Sale. He is also survived by his siblings, Bill Johnson and his wife Cecile, Betty Dalton, and Bruce Johnson and his wife Glenda, along with many other family members and friends who will miss his quiet strength and warm smile.
Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories of Bobby on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Goode’s Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM.
In honor of Bobby’s life and his commitment to helping others, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills (PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043) or to Goode’s Creek Baptist Church (PO Box 720, Cliffside, NC 28024).
