Annette Chatman Johnson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 14, 2026.
Born on June 17, 1964 in Alamance County, North Carolina, Annette was the daughter of Allen Boyd Chatman and Ellen Marie Taylor Chatman. She graduated from Hugh M. Cummings High School with the Class of 1982. Annette is fondly remembered for her infectious smile and joyful spirit. She had an uncanny ability of making people feel valued and loved. The impact on all who knew her will endure forever.
Annette was a woman who lived life fully and loved deeply. She cherished time spent at the beach and the lake. She also loved traveling with her husband and sister and never passed up an opportunity for shopping — especially if jewelry or anything sparkly was involved. She loved to read, turn the music up loud, and fill every room with laughter and energy. More than anything, Annette treasured the moments spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and her very best friend and husband, Mark.
Her faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. Annette’s relationship with her “Papa God” shined through in the way she cared for others. Every night, she faithfully spent time praying for those she loved. The desire of her heart was to see everyone she loved know her Savior, Jesus as she did.
She was preceded in death by her father, Allen Boyd Chatman.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of seven years, Mark Johnson; her mother Ellen “Marie” Chatman of Burlington, North Carolina; her children, Chris Hopkins (Tory) of Princeton, North Carolina, Wes Burleson (Lindsay) of Oak Island, North Carolina, Caleb Hopkins (Marsha) of Clayton, North Carolina, Shawna Jordan (Jeff) of Etowah, North Carolina, and Jamie Johnson of Arden, North Carolina; and siblings Catherine “Cathy” Powell (Chuck) of King, North Carolina, Allen Chatman Jr. (Isabel) of Liberty, North Carolina, and John Chatman (Stephanie) of Burlington, North Carolina.
Annette was also a proud and devoted grandmother to seven grandchildren: Hayden Hopkins, Ellis Hopkins, Hunter Jordan, Avery Jordan, Aria Gilcrest, Bear Burleson and Alister Hopkins, all of whom she adored beyond measure.
While her family and friends will miss her deeply, they find comfort and peace in knowing she is now home with her Savior.
A celebration of Annette’s life will be announced and held at a later date.
